The team at Almond Care Children’s Services have been busy over the six-week holidays, bringing opportunities to the children in their care.

Across homes, the team have been busy creating meaningful experiences for the children, reflecting each child’s interests and individual needs.

Putting a stamp on Sunflower House

The children at Sunflower House have been busy this summer putting their own stamp on their home.

The children have been involved in redesigning parts of the home, creating a shared space that represents their personalities and interests. This helps children to develop ownership and belonging in the place that they call home.

Alongside this, the children have been taking part in diversity and equality celebrations, learning how to embrace different cultures.

One celebration led the children to try a new food, sadza and beef stew, allowing them to try something new while opening a dialogue about culture, identity and the diverse world around them.

Outside of Sunflower House, the children have been busy soaking up the sun on an adventure to the seaside, where they had the opportunity to swim in the sea and collect seashells.

That isn’t all. They have been bouncing and climbing at Jump Giants, attending virtual reality sessions and visiting the local funfair.

Moving towards the future at Rainbow House

This summer has been a particularly important one for one of the young people living at Rainbow House as they prepare to leap into independence.

The young person is taking the first step towards independence by transitioning into Almond Care Children’s Services Supported Living service.

They have been exploring their new home and taking the time to explore the local area, gradually becoming familiar with places, routines and opportunities that will soon become their new normal.

Transitions can bring excitement alongside uncertainty, which is why our focus is not simply on the practicalities of moving.

It is about helping a young person understand what is happening, have their voice heard, build confidence and move forward at a pace that feels manageable.

Fostering friendships at Bluebell House

At Almond Care Children’s Services, we believe that friendships do not stop at the front door of our home. Over this summer, the children have had the opportunity to meet up with friends and go swimming.

Supporting children to maintain genuine friendships is an important part of childhood.

Outside of the house, we have taken another seaside holiday, where the children managed to collect an incredible 200-plus shells on their adventures.

These shells are now being used to create homemade picture frames which will hold cherished photos of their holiday.

Back at home, the Great British Bake Off came to Bluebell House, where the children came together for a baking masterclass, using almost every pot, bowl and utensil in the house to create their masterpieces.

There has also been a princess in the midst. The children received a royal visit from Princess Aurora, who came for a singing session with the children.

Music is a special way of connecting and communicating for the children. The team in Bluebell House is happy to have seen the children enjoying these magical moments.

Exploring nature at Acorn House

The child at Acorn House have been busy exploring nature this summer with a trip to Tropical Birdland and embarking on nature walks.

On these trips, they have been collecting all sorts of goodies, from feathers to pebbles, which has inspired an exciting project for the child.

They are now transforming the shed into a special place where they can showcase the shells, crystals, feathers and other treasures that they have found along the way.

This child is even creating their own antique-style store, allowing them to display and share the objects that they have collected.
