How can families get the support they need?

Getting access to the right support early on is critical for struggling families.

To support this, multiple agencies have collaborated to work on improving the current system of how families get help.

Ofsted, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) have teamed to conduct joint targeted area inspections (JTAIs).

These inspections are set to begin in November 2022, to ensure that local authorities meet children’s and families’ needs early on.

Why is early intervention important?

Having the right resources and help from the very beginning can avoid families from hitting breaking point.

Whilst there may be support available, a disjointed approach between agencies can leave families at a loss.

As part of the programme, the JTAIs will look into how social care, education, health and the police can work together to recognise and respond to any risks.

Yvette Stanley, Ofsted’s National Director for Regulation and Social Care, commented on the programme:

“Getting the right response at the right time is critical for children and families. All agencies have their part to play in helping children and families early.”
